Technivorm Coffee Maker Review

All drip coffee makers are the same. If you believe that then our Technivorm Moccamaster review Assumes you have never heard of the Moccamaster KBGT. This will be the first of three Technivorm Moccamaster reviews that look at how the Dutch manufacturer applies the same level of design, product innovation, and manufacturing excellence that the best Italian espresso makers do. It would be fair to call Technivorm the JURA or Gaggia of coffee makers

Technivorm Coffee Brewer Technology

For over 50 years, Technivorm has shown that you can brew better drip coffee. The Technivorm Moccamaster 79312 KBGT does this in ways that are similar to how those great espresso makers approach things.

It starts with the water heating element. The Technivorm Moccamaster 79312 has a copper boiling element and that heats the water to between 196- and 205-degrees Fahrenheit. Copper is a superior material for heating elements but can be expensive and difficult to work with. Most brew makers are some combination of aluminum or a steel alloy.

The Moccamaster KBGT then employs an unusual method to dispense the heated water onto the coffee grounds. A small pump applies a pulsing force. This creates “turbulence” and disrupts the ground coffee as opposed to simply dripping. And, as a result, you get TDS (total dissolved solids) of 18% to 22% in every cup. This is similar to a top espresso maker’s pre-immersion system. According to Technivorm, the cone-shaped drip basket helps to slow the brew and delivers more coffee with a much more complex flavor and aroma.

The Moccamaster KBGT Carafe

The care doesn’t end there. These carafe materials are also very high quality and have the look and feel of something you would find in a luxury hotel suite. The heating element maintains the brewed coffee at a very consistent, 175-185 degrees. The thermal carafe keeps your coffee very hot for about an hour. The Moccamaster KBGT also includes a travel lid for the carafe, this is a great feature.

Moccamaster KBGT brew-basket has an automatic drip-stop so brewing stops if you remove the carafe during the brew cycle. All Moccamaster Coffee Brewers are handmade in the Netherlands and backed by their industry-leading 5-year manufacturer’s warranty.

Technivorm Moccamaster review

Technivorm Coffee Brewer Warranty

Technivorm has a lot of confidence in its coffee brewers. The Technivorm Moccamaster KBGT has its five-year manufacturer’s warranty, which is the longest we have seen for a machine of this type.
